Taking Back America By Taking Back Our Schools

Merrianne Geisdorf - Candidate for the Mesa Unified School District Governing Board

The following is my first political speech ever! I gave it at the LD19 meeting Thursday, June 17. It went over pretty well. I got a lot of signatures, a couple of requests for signs when I get them, and a nice donation for my campaign fund.

My name is Merrianne Geisdorf and I am a candidate for the Mesa Unified School District Governing Board. There are 2 positions available. I am an unlicensed accountant and have been a sole proprietor since 1981. My clients are primarily small businesses. I had one year of college. We moved here in October 2001. I have 3 children and 11 grandchildren, and I am a very concerned citizen.

I know you hear this from a lot of candidates, but I am not a politician. I have been one of the silent majority for most of my life. After the Stimulus Package passed in February 2009, I really woke up. I saw a notice on the internet for a Tea Party to be held at Tempe Town Lake. I wasn’t sure exactly what it was, but I told my husband we needed to go. We invited a friend to go with us, and we have been active participants in the Tea Party groups ever since.

I am concerned that our children are not being taught about the founding of America, why they should be proud to be Americans, how precious the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence are. Our children are able to graduate if they pass the AIMs test, which has been dumbed down 5 times and set to a 10th grade level. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! We need to get rid of the IB Program which comes through the UN, costs tens of thousands of dollars, and promotes Global Citizenship vs. American Citizenship.

The schools keep asking for more money, but it’s not getting to the classrooms. I believe we need to cut back the top heavy administration to make sure we have more money being spent on teachers and classroom supplies. We need to support and reward effective teachers and eliminate the ineffective ones.

School board members are only on the November ballot. I need 400 signatures to get on the ballot, and I have petitions in the back. My name is Merrianne Geisdorf and I would appreciate your support.

I also am running for school board in Peoria. I could not agree more with your position. However, i am running on a differnt platform. We need to get history and the founding fathers back into the school. This is all on my website johnrosadopusd.net.

I will be happy to work with you although we are on opposides of the valley.
