Governor Ducey failed to protect parental rights and the innocence of children. Today the Governor surprisingly vetoed the parental rights and transparency bill, SB1456. Instead, he is issuing an executive order that addresses only a few provisions in the bill.
The innocence of children has been neglected by our governor by keeping in place sex ed for K-4. The governor mentions that eliminating sex ed in K-4 “could put vulnerable children at risk by limiting discussion around sexual abuse prevention.” This is completely false! Sex education is not sexual abuse prevention. There is NO evidence that sex ed prevents sexual abuse. In fact, premature exposure to sexual content desensitizes children and makes them more vulnerable to sexual abuse! SB1456 would have protected these young children.
The right for parents to review curriculum and provide written permission to opt in their children for instruction in human sexuality taught in other subjects was completely ignored in the governor’s executive order.
Parents, not the government or the school, has the fundamental right to direct the upbringing and education of their children.
Let Governor Ducey know that you are extremely disappointed in his action by calling him at (602) 542-4331 or emailing him.
Thank you to all of you who called and emailed legislators and the governor asking them to support SB1456!
The Protect Arizona Children Coalition will continue to advocate for the protection of parental rights and the innocence of children.
