Taking Back America By Taking Back Our Schools

Brent Brown, Corona Del Sol principal threatens the educational career of his student

I sent a letter to my child's principal saying I was opting her out of the AZ Merit test. He replied back in such a way as to tell me she wasn't allowed to opt out and that I wasn't allowed to share this information with anyone.

here is the email he sent:

I want to respond to your e-mail and let you know that In light of the Attorney General's letter sent out to all educators, we do not offer opt-out options for the AZ Merit test or any mandatory achievement tests mandated by the state; therefore, the Tempe Union High School District will follow the Attorney General's opinion on this matter. The Tempe Union High School District has no other choice but to follow the Attorney General's opinion.

I have attached the Attorney General's letter dated December 10, 2014. The Tempe Union High School District will abide by its contents; therefore, missing school solely due to the AzMERIT will result in an unexcused absence.  Students will not be able to make up work, and will be scheduled for a make-up End-of-Course Assessment.

I have also attached an information sheet that I hope you find helpful.

Please refrain from sending out to our teachers and to our school, communication, information, and flyers that could be deemed disruptive to the education process as this can have a negative impact on our student’s education and have potential unintended consequences.

If you would like to meet and discuss this, I would be more than happy to do so.

Thank you,

Brent Brown

Wow, Mr. Brown and I go back to Marcos de Niza days.  I had a lot of respect for him at the time.

However, what does Mr. Brown mean by disruptive?  In other words, play the game or shut-up.  Well, I'm with the parent.  If I still had kids in public schools they would NOT be participating in AZMerit or any other data mining test.  And I wouldn't hesitate to educate others in the school about it.

To the parent, an unexcused absence isn't the end of the world.  Use the opportunity to be with your daughter.  She'll be gone and in the arms of the liberal colleges soon.

This entire education system needs to be imploded, top to bottom.  I think there is no other hope.

Actually, I won't be paying for my children to go to college. One of them joined the military and this one says she will got to vocational school.

As far as Mr. Brown's warning, I'm going plant those opt out flyers all over the Fry's square by that school. I'm going to give some to the church next door. I'm going to post them by the circle K and the Starbucks. My kid has posted it on her twitter page and told all her friends. If he has enough students to take the test on Monday I'll be shocked.

That is great! A true Freedom of Speech warrior. TUHSD should be proud to have a parent in its district who appreciates the First Amendment, especially since the CdS principal doesn't.

Maybe we could get some Educate Your Neighbors About AZMerit Parties going by each high school this weekend. The weather will be perfect.
