KATHY HOFFMAN: SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INDOCTRINATION
IDENTITY POLITICS STRIKES AGAIN
The latest nonsense from an Arizona elected Democrat is the creation of a new position at the Arizona Department of Education. Kathy Hoffman, Arizona Superintendent of Public Indoctrination, has announced she has created an Associate Superintendent of Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion. In other words, the Democratic Party wants to formally incorporate one of their main socialist tenets -- Identity Politics -- into the very fabric of our public school system.
Yes, they’ve been on that warpath nationally for decades using teachers’ unions and their toady supporters on local school boards to turn our schools into socialist indoctrination camps. Now they have created a position at the state level here in Arizona (Ms. Hoffman: “This leadership position is among the first of its kind in the nation.” Well, aren’t we the lucky ones.).
What will Ms. Hoffman do? This Ass. Superintendent is “charged with driving ADE’s internal and external efforts to better serve under-represented, marginalized, and at-risk students and their parents.” Does this include young, Christian male students, who are now some of the most oppressed young folks in America? Of course not.
Ms. Hoffman and her leftist thugs will do what the Left has been doing for decades but now in Arizona and with the weight of the State behind her -- target straight, white males as oppressors, bigots, homophobes, blah, blah, blah. All under the guise, of course, of making right the historical wrongs -- perceived or real -- of every identity group the Left can think up.
And there’s the rub and the irony. Rather than treating individuals of all stripes with proper respect, the Left throws everyone into groups, pitting one group against another. The Left decides who is in what group and promotes, even celebrates, the victimization of their preferred groups. David Azerrad of the Heritage Foundation has written: “The key to understanding identity politics is to realize that it is primarily a politics of oppression and victimization rather than identity.”
The approach is simple: Pick out a group or groups of people who for some reason, legitimate or not (blacks, women, LGBTQA+, illegal aliens -- you name it), that they are being oppressed and victimized, then decide who their oppressors are (in their minds it’s always straight, white, Christian males) and then beat them up -- sometimes literally -- in the press, in legislation, in movies, on tv, etc. -- and now in the classroom. And, ironically, call on the very government they claim to be the oppressors for centuries to fix it. They want government to relax the standards for education, jobs, housing -- literally everything -- to assure the success of the oppressed groups. Nothing like dumbing down America to assure outcomes rather than opportunities.
Mr. Azerrad again: “Identity politics should be rejected not because it demands justice for those who have been unjustly treated, but because it poses a threat to republican self-government by corroding patriotic ties, fostering hatred, promoting cultural separatism, and demanding special treatment rather equality under the law.”
The Arizona Legislature and the Attorney General need to keep close tabs on the biased Democrat nonsense emanating from Ms. Hoffman’s ADE.
