Taking Back America By Taking Back Our Schools

by Beth Hallgren, PCRC D5 Chair
Greetings My Fellow Patriots,
I am very concerned at the manner in which the "movement", of PARCC and "Common Core" assessments and standards are being implemented and railroaded into our school systems. This is an extremely costly, incomplete, incompetent, conglomerate method of "exploring". Exploring was a term used to describe the program, yesterday during the Education Committee hearing by one speaking FOR the House Bill that was passed. The value of technology is stupendous. However, we must not lose sight of other vehicles of relating and computation. "Yikes", Educators and Legislators, think for yourselves, please. We are depending on you!
Such an extreme reaction would be unnecessary except it has been repeatedly said that this program is going to be a drastic change, unlikely anything in the past 200 years. Yes, our public schools are failing our students, our parents, our communities and on and on. As it is, parents are pulling their children out of public schools. That is because public schools' motives, methods and attitudes have swayed away from the desire of parents to adequately prepare their children for responsible and successful adulthood. Going along with this new fast track to disaster will not help any of us except those with progressive, globalist ideas about the future of our children, our state and the world
When I heard the statement, "Common Core is going to make them think", referring to our students, on Thursday, I was appalled. We know that testing and setting standards doesn't instigate learning and it will not make our children think. Teaching methods, the attitudes of educators and several other factors have a great bearing on children's learning and thinking. I propose we are going in circles around our problems and allowing those with other agendas to ram-rod this "movement" down our Arizonan throats.
What happened in the two meetings this week is indicative of the "dazzle them with your footwork", load them with professional sounding data and the indoctrination that is and will be used in the schools to "focus" our children's learning and thinking. This is all happening with the help of our otherwise, well meaning, conservative legislators and educators, such as yourselves. Just as I hope our educators will encourage, teach and allow our children to think for themselves, I pray you all will think for yourselves! Talk about our need for "critical thinking" and analyses.
Yesterday, during the presentations at the committee hearing among those situations noticed were, one, technology failed one of the presenters and two, one of the test questions for A THIRD GRADER totally stumped two of us holding Master's degrees.
Please, for the sake of our schools, our children, our state AND OUR SOCIETY, read and study the Common Core materials. If you do educate yourselves on this subject, it is believed this will be seen for what it is, a deadly smoke screen. Yes, deadly is a drastic word. We are bludgeoning the capacity for individualism and exceptionalism of not only our children, but our teachers, and our state, as a whole.
"All that it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing."

this is the same way they pushed IB. It's just another way of indoctrinating a socialist agenda on our kids. They knew we were on to IB and decided to change the name.

The government always markets their new required programs as the answer to all our educational woes. Each of their solutions have moved more to a socialistic, godless indoctrination of our youth who, by the time they finish school, rarely want to pick up a book again. There are people in high places who know that they can only govern people when they stop them from being thinkers. Starting with the children is how they do it and we are not the first society to succumb to this. What does surprise me is why so many people continue to keep their children in public education as if it is sacred, and the best thing for our children. I hope people wake up soon that common core is not the answer, and that change has to come by restoring God, Country and Family back into the curriculum. Send them to a private school or home school is the best answer to date as far as I am concerned.

Amen!

A second Amen to you, Nancy.
