Former elementary school principal indicted

A former principal in an Arizona school district is accused of misusing $54,000 in donations and putting them into a private bank account.

Arizona prosecutors say Janet Thor was indicted Monday on 16 counts of misuse of public monies, two counts of theft and two counts of fraudulent schemes.

She's a former principal at Kyrene de los Cerritos Elementary School in Ahwatukee Foothills and Kyrene del Cielo Elementary School in Chandler. Thor resigned from her position in April 2009.

According to a report released Tuesday by the Arizona Auditor General, Thor allegedly deposited thousands of dollars in donations from local businesses, parents and parent-teacher organizations into unauthorized bank accounts from July 2004 to March 2009.
